Your Heart and Gums: The Forgotten Link

Don’t Forget About The Gums!

Heart disease and strokes have been linked to gum disease! Many people can’t believe that your mouth could affect your heart. But, think of your mouth as the gateway to your body. Your mouth is one of the first lines of defense, therefore, if your gums are compromised, your body has just opened one of the largest bacterial flood gates.

A happy and healthy heart.

Your gums are a natural barrier that protect your body against bacterial invasions. However, without brushing and flossing tartar and plaque can build up. These problems will lead to gingivitis, and therefore, will make it harder for your gums to prevent infection.

Science is still investigating precise dynamics between oral disease and overall health, but the Surgeon General went so far as to say that  “…you cannot be healthy without oral health.”

Fitness doesn’t always mean staying fit in the gym, it can also mean brushing and flossing in front of the mirror! Just as how a mere thirty minutes of daily physical activity can help protect you against cardiovascular disease, the few minutes a day that it takes to brush, floss, and rinse can help you achieve the same goal!
